Aspirin belongs to a class of medicines called non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. Aspirin is used in different doses to treat a variety of conditions.
Aspirin can be used to treat painful conditions such as headache, toothache or period pain. It can also be used to treat a high temperature. Aspirin works in these conditions by blocking the production of some chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, pain and increased temperature.
Aspirin may be used for the secondary prevention of thrombotic cerebrovascular or cardiovascular disease and following by-pass surgery to help reduce the chances of them having a heart attack or stroke. It works by helping to prevent bloodclots which can lead to these conditions.
