Quick Overview

This GBS home screening test is used to check for the presence of Group B Streptococcus bacteria. It should be carried out by pregnant women between the 35th and 37th week of pregnancy to find out whether they have the GBS bacteria which could be passed on to the baby during labour. Sometimes called an ECM (Enriched Culture Medium) test, it is taken to prevent the transmission of a possible infection to the newborn.
